Since the first support services for teachers were established in the 1990’s, the system of professional development support has grown incrementally to include support services established to address a variety of needs such as school leadership and development planning, curriculum change, education programmes and other areas of teaching and learning. In recent years there has been some consolidation and re-structuring of the support service system.
This process of consolidation and re-structuring will continue in 2010 as Teacher Education Section (TES) of the Department of Education and Skills has re-conceptualised the provision for school support and teacher professional development. This re-conceptualisation will see a move to a new generic and integrated cross-sectoral support service from September 2010. A National Director, Paddy Keays has been appointed and he will lead and manage the development and work of the new service ensuring quality of provision.
Support will be provided regionally by multi-disciplinary teams who will work in close co-operation with the Education Centre Network to respond to needs identified by schools in the region.
This will be the website for the Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST) and will be updated in due course.

Ceapadh Paddy Keays mar Stiúrthóir Náisiúnta agus déanfaidh sé obair na seirbhíse nua a bhainistiú agus a threorú.
