Anticipation Exercise |
---|
Anticipation exercises can be used to harness the powerful "psychological power of prediction", anticipation exercises are a pre-reading comprehension strategy and an Assessment for Learning tool, as they assess prior knowledge, engage students in reading for meaning and test of the students learned anything new. Snakes and Ladders |
---|
Snakes and Ladders may be played using any of the question sets that you make (see example).
Simply print the definitions and solutions onto card. If you don't like cutting up card, print the definitions and solutions onto labels and stick these onto small index cards.
The same question sets can be used for bingo, noughts and crosses as well as snakes and ladders. Three for the price of one.
You will need to print out the snakes and ladders board. Download the template, print and laminate it. Perhaps, print it in A3.
Placemat Technique |
---|
This technique requires students to be divided into groups of four. Students gather around the Placemat Template which is organised with sections for each student to record their ideas and a central section for students to summarise their individual ideas. Firstly, students individually think about a question and write down their ideas/answers on their own section of the template. Then students share their ideas to discover common elements, which can be written in the centre of the placemat template. The purpose of the placemat technique is to provide all students with the opportunity to share their ideas and learn from each other in a co-operative small group discussion.
As a result, students may improve their oral literacy. They will extend their learning by listening to the ideas of others. Click for more information on the placemat technique, as well as step-by-step instructions for successful implementation.
